Version 2

Dear BERC Community,

The time has come once again to welcome a new BERC Leadership and Executive Team, and this year is a special one as we’ll be celebrating BERC’s 10th Anniversary! We are excited to serve as your BERC Co-Presidents for 2016 and look forward to getting to know all of you better in the coming year. We are dedicated to continuing to grow BERC as a leading organization and community on campus for all things energy and resources and we are excited to leverage one of our greatest assets – our members – to accomplish this.

Our 2016 Executive Team hails from the Haas School of Business, Goldman School of Public Policy, College of Engineering, and the Energy & Resources Group. As per design, our Leadership Team is one of the most interdisciplinary on campus, representing nearly every college at UCB. Last weekend, the entire Leadership and Executive teams came together for our annual retreat to get to know each other, and to discuss plans and strategies for the upcoming year. Based on feedback at the meeting, we will be pursuing many ways in which we can improve BERC moving forward. We also put together a list of potential BERCShop ideas that we will be pursuing but would love your ideas as well.

Big thanks to the 2015 Leadership and Executive teams for all of their hard work last year and for sticking around a few extra months to ensure a successful transition. This past year, many great new initiatives were implemented, such as our membership data initiative and the Berkeley Cleantech University Prize. We hope you’ll join us at the BERC Energy Summit in just a few weeks, where we will be celebrating BERC’s 10th anniversary and debuting a special video to recognize BERC’s amazing achievements over the past decade!

We understand that BERC is such an extensive group that sometimes it is hard to know how to get involved. We recommend that you peruse the list of BERC member benefits and be sure to add BERC’s Calendar to your own so that you can stay up to date on all of BERC’s events. Finally, we encourage you to reach out to us should you have any thoughts, opportunities or questions about BERC and how we might better serve you and our members at CoPresidents@berc.berkeley.edu.

Hope to see you around campus or at a BERC event soon!

-Christie Howe and Jessie Knapstein

Jessie is a second year, dual degree masters student at the Goldman School and the Energy & Resources Group. In 2015, Jessie was BERC’s VP of Events and Programs and is excited for this new challenge. Prior to graduate school, Jessie worked in building energy efficiency at the Department of Energy in DC.

Christie is a first year at the Haas School of Business, where she is focusing her studies on the burgeoning energy storage sector. Prior to coming to Berkeley, Christie worked in sales and marketing at energy efficiency analytics startup FirstFuel Software, and as a Program Manager for the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.
